Spring decade of Intro week for international students of KazGASA

Summary of the events and tours of the spring decade of INTRO WEEK, organized by International Department, is listed in the short, but hopefully bright report on conducted events.
According to the plan of KazGASA intro week, on 25 April 2010, exchange students from Korea attended "Grease” Performance, set by «KELT” theater in Almaty.

Exciting, bright show, presented to the audience, gave students a huge portion of joyful emotions. Despite the fact that performance was conducted on the foreign language and the story line was developing quite rapidly, the show was easy to understand and songs were pleasant to listen to.
»Grease” musical was first set on Broadway stage in 1972, and at the moment is considered among the most successful musicals ever, with one of the longest lasting stage life. With its original scenario, musical was one of the first shows to bring rock-n-roll motifs on a big stage. It was award winning piece of work, awarded Oscar in 1979 and nominated in 5 categories for "Golden Globe” in the same 1979.

After the show and a short walk across the main streets of evening Almaty, Korean students were invited to join dastarkhan as guests of the city. Long lasting talks about the South Korea on the one side, and old Almaty from the other, were accompanied with degustation of national dishes – Beshparmak, sorpa, kazy, karta. Here to mention, that it was the first time, Korean students tried horse meat and appeared that they liked it a lot.
The evening ended with only positive emotions and new exciting memories.

On 12 May 2010, international students of the Academy visited the most beautiful sites in the surrounding of the city and within its boundaries. Sightseeing tour included visit to the mountainous areas – Almarasan valley, where students had a chance to see golden eagles, that are common on the territory of the country, eagles and other rare birds; the next stop was on the top of Kok-tube hill, which is located within the city boundaries and opens the bird view on the whole city; the last step of the tour was Medeo, which is the most loved place in Almaty. Medeo is very famous of its ice-skating ring — the most high ring above the sea level in the world. But the most bright emotions students flelt after climbing 1000 steps to reach the top of the dam and discover amazing view on the Almaty city on one side of the dam and view on majestic mountains of Zailysisky Alatau on the other side.

Intro week to the city centre of Almaty had started with the coming of spring in the city!

On the 9th of April, 2010 International Department organized a sightseeing tour for exchange students from Korea. Cloudy morning sky and rainy forecast for the day wouldn’t stop the interest and excitement of the students to explore the city, therefore the tour started just on time! The program of the tour was arranged according to the highlights of architectural, cultural and historical context of the city. In order to demostrate all the beauty of Almaty, the first stop was made besides one of the most distinctive buildings of the city – City Circus. A unique building, which comprises in itself elements of traditional Kazakh dwelling as well as tendencies of developing soviet time, strongly impressed our students. Other remarkable places that were visited during the day were- Central Stadium, lunch in Korean Restaurant, Lermantov Theater, Central Library (were we were lucky to issue year memebership), New square, Monument of Independence, Central Museum, Coffee break at Ramstore, Pupils Palace, Republic Palace, Hotel Kazakhstan, Abai Theater of Opera and Ballet, Old Square, 28 Panphilof heroes park. The excursion followed the main streets of the city – Abai avenue, Furmanov street and Dostyk avenue. Students were also guided through the most beautiful alleys – Valikhanov street and Tolebayev alley.

On the course of the tour, the brief history about the highlighted places was read and interesting issues discussed. Luckily the weather during the day was kind to the adventures of Almaty and afternoon sun created pleasant atmosphere and enriched the program with joyful emotions.

Fortunately, the day was full of information, fun and emotion, and the tiredness of the students was fully compensated with bright memories and numerous photographs with the spring Almaty on the background!

It was decided not the constrain the tour with the boundaries of the city, and next trip will demonstrate Korean guests the beauty of Kok-tobe, Medeo and Chimbulak. In the nearest future, we are getting prepared for the "Grease” musical, organized by KELT theater in Almaty.
