IT’S HISTORY
Department of General Humanitarian Education was founded on the basis of order №25, dated May 3rd, 2005 "Restructuring of structural educational subdivisions of the Academy”. It includes departments of English, Kazakh and Russian languages as well as the Social Sciences.
The aim of creating the Department is a systematic coordination and unification of social and humanitarian disciplines. It provides the closest intercommunication with the general professional and special disciplines and pre-graduate training.
Job characteristics:
Department of General Humanitarian Education has the following disciplines:
• Kazakh and Russian languages;
• English language;
• Philosophy;
• History of Kazakhstan;
• Sociology;
• Political Science;
• Courses of social and humanitarian, general education cycles are given for freshmen and sophomores.
Professors and tutors of the department conduct lectures, give practical lessons with the help of interactive methods of teaching such as video presentation of the lessons, round tables, role plays and discussions.

The main activity
The main tasks of educational and methodological activity are:
o the improvement of educational process and its intensification;
o the increase of educational quality;
o educational and methodological providing of the subject teaching (hand-outs, media books, providing with the methodological manuals).
The functions of educational and methodological Council of the staff of our department and its activity:
• the improvement of methodology in teaching all forms of studies;
• analysis and generalization of pedagogic experience of department’s leading instructors;
• implementation of new teaching technologies into educational process and usage of modern technical means of teaching;
• discussions and recommendations for publishing textbooks and educational-methodological literatures.
At the beginning of 2009–2010 academic years a great deal of work was done on systematization and on development of educational-methodological complex of general compulsory subjects (Kazakh, English and Russian languages, History of Kazakhstan, Philosophy, Human Rights and Sociology). A complete educational-methodological providing for above mentioned subjects was created: maps of methodological providing, bank of tests, exam questions, module materials, hand-outs, video presentations.
In KazGASA linguistic subjects are taught on a high level. For this goal all necessary conditions are made, studies are held according to the level. A student during one term has to increase his language skills at least for one level. Modules, final exams include two aspects: theoretical and practical. Kazakh, English and Russian studies are taught by high-skilled instructors. In order to find the most useful and effective methods of teaching they participate in international and republican conferences about the problems in language teaching methodology and twice a year attend courses to increase their professional skills. The tutors of our department are being edited by Professor – Mr. Kussainov A.A. who has published a methodical manual: "Universal criteria of complex assessment of language proficiency”. They are constantly being developed and reviewed for the purpose of their implementation.
There are four sections at the Department: Kazakh, Russian, English languages and the Section of Social Sciences.
SECTION OF KAZAKH LANGUAGE: There are 8 highly qualified instructors of Kazakh language. In the last 5 years they published 10 electronic manuals, more than 30 methodological textbooks and recommendations.
Instructors of this section use in their lessons active forms of activity, new teaching technologies of Kazakh language. Once in a month seminars are held by the methodology of teaching Kazakh language. There is an atmosphere of friendship and collaboration at studies. The results of their activities are shown in scientific and methodological publications. Instructors always work on their professional improvement and on increasing their skills.
SECTION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE: There are 14 tutors of English language. All the tutors of English language work on scientific and educational-methodological works. Video presentations and seminars are always being held where reports are about teaching English language. There is an "English Club” which was organized by the tutors of English language. Once a month the tutors held disputes, round tables with the students on different themes in English language. The rank of tutors of the Department actively participated in getting language upgrade qualifications abroad. The main structure of the staff of our Department attended different seminars, courses organized by "Global Education”, "MacMillan”, etc…
Seminar are being held on a regular basis and organized by representatives of "MacMillan”, "Oxford Inter-press” on teaching the English language. During those seminars:
The tutors are presented with different kinds of literatures of "MacMillan”. They are given a lot of information about contents of those literatures and also were given recommendations on how to use them in the education process.
There are presentations and discussions on the new methods of teaching English language, how to attract the students by consolidating other themes and by using different kinds of teaching methods.
The tutors of English language always go through self-examinations.
At the seminars modern computer technologies in teaching English language are being presented along with methods of using them.
SECTION OF RUSSIAN LANGUAGE CONSISTS OF 5 TUTORS.
It consists of 5 tutors, three of whom are Candidates of Science. In 2008–2009 academic year 2 electronic textbooks were published: "Russian language for the students of technical specialties” (by Ms. Nurmakova Zh.K.) and "Russian language for the students of Civil Engineering specialties” (by Ms. Abilova B.A.). There were also published scientific works and reports on different forums.
SECTION OF SOCIAL SCIENCES:
It does consist of 7 tutors where 4 of the tutors of this section are Candidate of Science, Grant Possessor of MES of the RK 2005 and one of the tutors is going to defend a candidate thesis very soon.
The tutors of this Section lead scientific researches in different spheres of science. About 31 scientific articles were published by an Assistant Professor – Ms. Nauryzbayeva L.V. about the development of culture of Kazakhstan in the XXth century.
SCIENTIFIC-RESEARCH ACTIVITY OF THE DEPARTMENT
Every year it helds Republican Scientific-Theoretical Conference on the subject of "Up-to-date problems of social-humanitarian sciences of modern times: research and the ways of resolving them” as well as the scientific reports are also being published. One of the aim of the faculty is to attract students to be involved in a scientific work. Students take part in the conference "Student and science: The view to the future” and in the publication of the best work in the collection. In 2007 in the magazine called "Russian language at school and at the university in Kazakhstan” #3, there was a publication of the work by the student Sultaniva T. and called "Publicity text” (scientific tutor Abilova B.A.). Other students’ 29 articles were published in the collection of the Republican Conference "Student and science: the view to the future”.
‘The tutors of the Department work on their scientific thesis:
1. Assistant Professor – Ms. Shonaibayeva A.T., under the supervision of Doctor of Philological Sciences of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, is working on a theme "Standard language unities in Government correspondence”
2. Assistant Professor – Ms. Nagiyatova L.B. -”The functional-typological and genre specifics of regional press”.
3. Ms. Orazbayeva E. is working on a theme "National characteristics of adjectives in Kazakh language”.
4. Assistant Professor Tashimbay A.K., under the supervision of Doctor of Philological sciences — Mr. Berikbay Sagyndykuly of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, is working on the candidate dissertation on a theme: "Muhabbatname (XIV century) lexis of monument”.
5. Assistant Professor – Ms. Zhakupova A.O., under the supervision of Doctor of Philological Sciences — Mr. Rakhymjan Turysbek of KazNU named after Al-Farabi, is working on the candidate dissertation on a theme " Zhusypbek Aimauytuly and literature critics”.
EXTRA CURRICULUM WORK
In connection with that the students of the 1st and 2nd courses of Academy and College study general obligatory disciplines at our department and have done a lot of work on them. For example, they have "English Club”, "Zhusden Zhuiryk”. In these clubs we held discussions on the given themes between students, play different role games such as: "The Leader of the 21st century”, brain-rings, intellectual Olympiads and etc…
The staff of the department does a great job in organizing the horizontal connections through the Internet. They exchange the experience of teaching methods with their foreign counterparts from such countries as: Germany, Russia, Poland, the USA, Canada and Holland. The results of this activity are always discussed on the Methodological Council of the Department.
Under the supervision of Associate Professor Mr. Mizanbekov S.K. junior students of the Academy and freshmen of the College have organized poetic party competition with video presentation poems about their country.
On 01.09.09 tutors of the Department: Mr. C. Mizanbekov, Ms. C. Zulkarnaeva, Ms. C. Dzanykulova, Ms. L. Akbaeva, Ms. Zh. Nurmahova and Ms. A. Bogenbaeva gave lectures, dedicated to a Message of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Achievements and the Results:
Ms. L. Nagiyatova successfully took part in the educational UASP (University Administrators Support Program) with IREX, won a grant and took extensive courses at the universities of the US on Strategic Planning and Language competence.
Assistants professor Tashimbai S.K., Kenzhegarina A.Z., Shonaybayeva A.T. successfully defended their theses in late 2010.
