History of the department.

The history of the department originated in 50’s, when preparation of specialists of the oldest and necessary profession for country-civil engineer was made on the basis of Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical and then Kazakh Polytechnical Institute named after V.J. Lenin. During the long history of the department it has made huge contribution to the preparation of highly qualified civil engineers for Kazakhstan. Here are some facts of the department characterizing basic stages of its formation and development.

· In 1957 – the first students were enrolled on the specialty «Industrial and Civil Construction» to the Kazakh Mining and Metallurgical Institute.

· In 1959 – the first department of "construction” was organized under the supervision of B.S Zharmagambetov.

· In 1961 –Civil Engineering and Construction department was separated from Mining Department.

· In 1964 — Part Time department was opened.

· In 1962 – the first graduation of civil engineers took place.

Graduation papers of A.T. Aubakirov and I.J. Nemchinov were recognized as the best ones. Later these graduates became scientists and doctors of technical sciences. Among the 18 people who successfully defended their thesis are scientists, teachers and enterprise employees T.Zh. Akberdin, M.M. Sabalakov, M.A. Ashimbaev, A.A. Bespayev, A.S. Tatygulov, P.V. Korolkov and etc.

Graduation papers were supervised by the professors of the department and leading experts of Designing Institutes.

Training of specialists of industrial and civil construction at the department was conducted in 1980 during the formation of Almaty Institute of Architecture and Construction.

• In 2001 with preserved KazGASA abbreviation our academy became Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

• in 01.01.2011 KazGASA loses its juridical independence and becomes as part of the International Educational Corporation.

• Structural calculations and designing of buildings;

• Industrial and civil engineering methods;

• Heat-and gas supply and Ventilation;

• Water supply and sewerage systems

• Structural design and build of steel construction (since 2011).

· In 1963 – Specialization «Heat and Gas Supply, Ventilation» was opened at the construction department. At this time the department became one of the leading departments at KazPTI. At the year of its existence the department took the second place in the competition of amateur performances «Spring in Polytechnical Institute», and «Theatre of Various Miniatures» of civil engineer was organized. Half year later it became a basis of «Theatre of Various Miniatures of Polytechnics». Many times civil engineers used to be champions of Sports days in KazPTI and later in AASI.

· in 1988–1990 were opened two new specialities. «Economics and organization of construction» which were transformed further into the economic department and « lift-and-carry, itinerary machines» were opened.

· in 1992 AACI was reorganized into KazGASA-Kazakh State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering

· Such specialities as «Town-planning and Economy», «Mechanization and Automatization of Construction», «Defence in emergency situations» were opened in1995–1997.

Nowadays there are 1163 students: 712 – full time, 451- part time.

Educational activities.

Nowadays there are Bachelor’s degrees students are trained on speciality "Civil engineering” and it has following specializations:

Cooperation with enterprises.

The department has close contacts with leading construction companies of the Republic: like «Basis», «Almaty Kurylys», «Almaty Gorstroy» and has branches in following organisations: «Imstalcon» (TPB), «Almatymonolitstroy» (TPB), KazNIISSA (BC), Injstroy (MAC), Branches of specialisation are opened in «Imstalcon», «Almaty — Monolitstroy» which expand opportunities of organisation of students practical training and carry out joint educational, methodical and scientific researches. Specialisations of the department use widely their opportunities at the KazNIISSA branch for the arrangement of educational and industrial training of students and scientific researches of post-graduate students. Such computer programs as «Lyre», «Mirage», «Autocard», «Skad», «Package», «Rama» are widely used in educational process. Laboratory works are carried out and mechanical systems are investigated, modelling of power systems are carried with the help of the program Matlab; M-files for computer calculation of course projects are developed.

1According to branches of teaching department is divided into 6 groups.

1^st group – lecturers who teach such branches of teaching as mechanical engineering I (theoretical mechanic), mechanical engineering II (strength of materials), mechanical engineering III (building mechanic and theory of elasticity), Dynamic and stability of construction. The lecturers of these disciplines are:

· Dostanova Saule Hajigumarovna doctor of technical science since 2003 (candidate of technical science since 1973), academic professor of DGC, she has been working at KazGASA since 2009 and her teaching experience is about 40 years. Room-208b.

· Slyambayeva Aimash Konyrgaziyevna candidate of technical science since1998, associated professor of DGC, she has been working at KazGASA since 2000, she teaches in state language. Room-208a.

· Gumenyuk Valeriya Vladimirovna, candidate of technical science since 2008, associated professor of DGC. Room-208a.

· Kassymova Gulsum Temirkhanovna, assistant professor, she has been teaching since 2000. Room-305.

· Tulegenova Orynsha Eleusizovna, assistant professor. Room-305.

2^nd group – lecturers who teach such branches of teaching as "construction site engines”, "construction work mechanization”, "power supply and automation in construction” "Physical metallurgy and welding”, The lecturers of these disciplines are:

· Maulenov Zhumadil Karbyshevich doctor of technical science since 2010 (candidate of technical science since 1990), academicals professor of DGC, he has been working at KazGASA since 1981. Room-208v.

· Burcev Victor Vasiliyevich candidate of technical science since 1974, associated professor of DGC, he has been working at KazGASA since 1987 (when it was a structure of KazPTI), Room-208v.

· Nurpeisova Saule Abrakhmanovna candidate of pedagogical science since 2009, and her teaching experience is more than 18 years. Room-208g.

· Seitkazinov Orazaly Dautkaliyevich candidate of technical science since 2010, assistant professor, he has been working at KazGASA since 2010), Room-209b.

· Kelemeshev A.Zh. candidate of technical science since 2006 associated professor he has been working at KazGASA since 1998. Room-212v.

· Azhigaliyeva B.A. assistant professor has been working at KazGASA for 16 years.

· Hodzhagali Irada Nizamatdinkyzy, assistant professor. In 2010 she became Master’s Degree. Her supervisor was Ospanov S.O. Her room is 305.

· AmanzholovYeldes Kanatbekuly, assistant professor. His room is 305.

The teaching staff lectures special subjects which afford students to get knowledge on design of buildings and constructions, experimental research and apply it at diploma thesis.

The teaching staff is qualified civil engineers and manage students graduation thesis.

The Faculty staff works closely on preparation of Bachelor’s of civil engineering on following subjects "Geotechnics I” (Soil mechanics) and "Geotechnics II” (Foundations, basements and underground structures). These subjects are lectured by:

· Ospanov S.O., candidate of technical sciences, associated professor since 1967; experienced lecturer has been working at KazGASA since 1968. Room-210g.

· Homyakov V.A., doctor of technical sciences since 2011, associated professor; he has been working at KazGASA since 1994. Room-210a.

· Sagymbekova A.O. candidate of technical sciences since 2009 assistant professor, he has been working at KazGASA since 2006. Room-210a.

The teaching staff is qualified civil engineers and manage students diploma projects on specialization TPGS.

The last group of professors from the Department of Construction Technologies, Infrastructure and Management were included from the 2^nd term of 2010–11 a.y. to the Department of General Construction, at the same time such specialities as "Heat-and gas supply and ventilation”, "Water supply and sewerage systems” were given to DGC.

Pyak Oleg Yugievich – academic professor by the direction of TGV and VK, cand. tech. sciences since 2000, has been working at KazGASA over 30 years and teaches subjects: "Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning”, " Industrial ventilation”, «Ventilation of<span> </span>special objects”, <span> </span><span> </span>»Cool supply”, "Base of scientific research”. Toybayev Kengekhan Duisenbekovich-doc. tech. sciences since 2006 y. associate professor, has been working at KazGASA since 1980 and teaches such subjects as: "Water supply, Sewerage and Hydraulic engineering”. <span> </span>He has more than 100 publications. Room-211.

Djartayeva Dilyara Karsibaevna-cand. tech. sciences, associate professor. Teaches such subjects as: "Hydraulic engineering”, "Engineering system”, "Systems of Water Supply and Sewerage”, "Pumping and Water taking Constructions”, "Engineering Mechanical Equipment Complexes of Living”, "Base of Scientific Research”, "Unfire Supplying”. She has about 100 scientific and methodology publications, including 1 monograph, 4 inventions and 4 textbooks (educational supplies).

Djunusov Tolkin Gapparovich- cand. tech. sciences, associate professor. Teaches such subjects as: "Complex Using of Water Resources”, "Hydraulic engineering”, "Pumping and Water taking Constructions”, "Engineering Systems”. He has more than 35 publications. Room-211.

Auelbecov Seilkhan Shadibecovich- cand. tech. sciences, associate professor of DGC. Teaches such subjects as: "Heating techniques”, "Heating Physics in Construction”, "Hydroaeromechanics”, "Engineering Systems”. He has more than 30 publications. Room-211.

Aliev Bachtiyar Ziyaevich-associate professor of DGC. Teaches: "Gas supplying”, Modern main and gas pipelines”, "Safety systems of gas supply”, "Compressed Hydrocarbon Gas”, "Repairing and exploitation of gas supply systems”. He has more than 30 scientific-methodical publications. Room-211.

Taubaldieva Aksaule Sagatullaevna- cand. tech. sciences, associate professor of DGC. Teaches such subjects as: "Physical-Chemical bases of water filtering”, "Water transportations”, "Technique and technology of water filtering”, "Hydro aeromechanics”, "Industrial water supply and Sewerage”, "Water supply and Sewerage<span> </span>of Dwelling complexes”, "Engineering Systems”, "Equipments and Apparatus of Water supply and Sewerage”. She has more than 60 publications. Room-209.

Seidaliev Talgat Orinbasarovich-assistant professor of DGC. Teaches: "Heat supply”, "Modern main and gas pipelines”, "Engineering Equipments of Constructions”. He has more than 10 publications. Room-305.

In 2009 the academic professor of TGV and VK Pyak O. and assistant professor Shagataev B. participated in the expertise of a New University project in Astana city. By the results of verification of expertise quality they were pointed with gratitude of MES RK. Professor’s stuff take part in projects of campus KAU.

Dean’s office of the department substantially is updated in 2010–11. The new dean is associate prof. Besimbaev Erik Turashovich, vice- dean for academic and scientific work is a new teacher who has just defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of technical sciences associate professor Seytkazinov Orazaly Dautkalievich, vice dean of student affairs associated professor Slyambayeva Aimash Konyrgazievna. Office manager is Ahaeva Zarina Oksikbaevna.
Kenebaeva Aynur Kenrimkulovna is responsible for technical support of laboratory work in the five laboratories.

Emphasis is placed on improvement and arrangement of educational process, its intensification, increase of efficiency of preparation of highly skilled and competitive experts. Methodical Council of the Department is headed and managed by assistant professor of the Department of General Construction Azhgalieva Banu Akkuanovna. Master classes and which aimed exchange of experience and support of young specialists are managed by Tazhymuratov Rahym Kalievich.

Functions of methodical council of the department and work of teaching staff:

- the analysis and abstract of pedagogical experience of leading teachers of the department, incorporation of the new technologies of training, improvement of methodic of carrying out of all kinds of studies, use of computer techniques and other means of training, the analysis of their efficiency;

- discussion and recommendations on publication of tutorials, textbooks, hand-outs for office hours and videopresentaions by teaching staff;

- cooperation with Methodical Council of our academy.

The faculty staff helds scientific-methodical work:

- leading teachers of the department are authors of GOSO which was developed in 2004 and 2006, which become obligatory for all high schools which are carrying out preparation on building specialities. The curriculum on subjects of a speciality «Civil engineering» are developed at the department;

- teachers of the department are authors of textbooks and the manuals recommended by Ministry of Education and Science RK;

- participates in incorporation of up-to-date educational technologies, video presentations; arrange methodical and research workshops by teaching staff and visiting professors;

- arranges internship, coursework and diploma thesis;

- develops cooperation with the enterprises, companies and universities. Particularly, branches of KazGASA exist at KazNIISA, KAZGOR, Imstalkon, SERT; AO "Almaty Holding Su”, DGP GNPOPE "Kazmexanobr”, "STANDART-GROUP Ltd”, "Engineering Company”, ‘KazGiproNeftTrans”, "Promventilation”, "Almatygas”.

- participates in methodical conferences of academy – «Art of the state» where problems of credit technology of training, the contents of curriculum, challenges of teaching with the use of new technology (Power Roint, the Base 10, Lyre 9.2, АutоСАD) are considered;

- organizes an International Conference "Theoretical and experimental investigations of civil engineering structures, " where are the following questions discussed: civil engineering structures, construction mechanics, technology of civil engineering industry and building materials, construction machines and mechanisms, electricity and economy in civil engineering. Every year is organized a student conference «Students and Science: Looking into the Future»;

- participates in the process of innovations by the Ministry of Education and Science. For example, in the long-distance Internet — testing of students on the same subjects.

- develops quizzes and assignments in all disciplines of civil engineering specialties for examination, midterm ratings, as well as for certification of graduates, conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science;
— develops a card of methodical supply for each discipline by taking in account scientific and methodical literature in the field of new technologies;
— participates in reviewing of tutorials, in the fair of graduates, creating innovative training programs in accordance with international requirements, searches for places of all types of practices by involving the Board of customers and a commission of experts at KazGASA (IEC).

Master’s degree.

There has been opened a master’s degree on a speciality 6M072900 — "Civil Engineering” at the department in 2003. There were some graduates. Two graduates of 2009 year were invited for a position of assistant professor on the discipline «Technology of civil engineering manufacture». There are 68 undergraduates at the department in 2011 who have been accepted by order. 43 of them study one year, and 25 people have entered on two-year postgraduate study, 9 of them are on the second year of study. During the course of study undergraduates get advanced knowledge on the chosen direction and do research work under the direction of the supervisor. The undergraduate has to produce a master thesis for presentation to board of experts of the academy on graduating. The graduates who graduate a master program after presentation master’s thesis are awarded an academic degree of Master of a civil engineering. Except professors of the department, scientists of the leading research and manufacturing firms of Almaty are involved for supervision on master thesis. So a part of undergraduates are supervised by supervisors from KazNIISSA, ProjektSteelconstruction, LLC «Basis» and other leading building companies.

Research work.

Scientific potential of the department consists of 6 doctors and 17 candidates of technical sciences, a candidate of pedagogical sciences and 2 Masters. Four thesises for a Doctor’s degree have successfully been defended (Baitursynov D.M., Besimbaev E.T., Maulenov Z.K., Khomyakov V.A.) in 2009–2010 academic year. The basic directions of scientific research of the department are: constructive decisions of demountable and folding metal awning constructions, research of deflected mode of thin-slab structure (academic professor Baitursunov D.M.); designing of underground parts of constructions, retaining walls, research of stability of slopes of ground massives, designing of basis and foundations of constructions (associate professor Homyakov V.A.); research and working out optimal variants of the basis and foundations on alluvial soils (associate professor Ospanov S.O.); statistical and dynamical stability of building and constructions on slopes, participation in the program of the U. N. O. by the international strategy of reduction of natural disasters (associate professor Besimbaev E.T.) problems of spatial designs (associate professor Bismildina Z. A), issues of mud constructions and activities (associate professor Bazarov R.B.); issues of investigation of buildings and constructions and methods of intensification and reconstruction (associate professor Kelemeshov A.D.), issues of cohesion of armature with concrete in ferroconcrete construction (associate professor Zhanseitov M. P.).

In 2009 graduation thesis of the student Auelbekov "Universal multipurpose center from metal tent coverings” under the guidance of professor Baitursunov D.M at the international contest of graduation thesis among former Soviet Union countries and Turkey at the University of Malters in Istambul won 2^nd place.

In 2009–10 academic years student Kozhakperov O. was rewarded with a 1^st grade Diploma for participating in the Student`s Scientific Conference (supervisor-Dzhardjaeva D.K).

The Department takes part in completing of the Fund of the museum and archives of AVASS (Association of Graduates of Architectural and Civil Engineering specialties).

The international activity.

The department of general construction has extensive international relations with many high schools, the enterprises and its branches abroad, academic scientific research institutes, the organizations, the enterprises, in particular: with the professor Ki-Tac-Chang in Kuhomsky Technological Institute in Seoul, NPO VNIIstroydormash, NPO VNIIzemmash, Dnepropetrovsk Institute of Construction, Volgograd University of Architecture and Construction, Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration (the head of the department doc. tech. science Salahitdinov A.T.), OGASA, SybADU, MADI, KGUSTA, TashPI, Tadjik Technical University, Department of PSMK of Penza Regional Centre of Innovative Studies with the American company "Manual” and others.

Since 1960 the department cooperated on scientific and methodical work and lectured by well-known local & foreign tutors, scientists, doctors of technical sciences, professors, such as: doctor of technical science Gvozdev A.A., doctor of technical science Kruglov S.M., doctor of technical science Barashikov A.J., professor Baykov В. Achievements, awards.

Ospanov S.O. — candidate of technical science, associate professor of the Department for achievements in science. He was awarded with the Diploma of II degree of Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy of Kazakh Republic, Certificates of honor of Ministry of USSR, KazSSR, Administration of Almaty, a medal for development of virgin lands in KazSSR, an anniversary medal for labor valor.

Bakirov К. К. — candidate of technical science, associate professor of Kazakh Leading Academy of Architecture & Civil Engineering. He was awarded with " the Certificate of honor of Supreme Soviet of Kazakh Republic ".

Maulenov ZH.K was awarded with the Certificate of honor of Administration of Almaty, "Almatykurulys”.

Besimbayev E.T. was awarded with the Certificate of honor Ministry of Education and Science, Akim of Almaty, "Nur-Otan”, "Association of civil engineers of Kazakhstan”.

Baitursunov D.M was awarded with the Certificate of honor of Ministry of Education and Science of RK and Thank you letter of the "Association of civil engineers of Kazakhstan”, for publishing textbooks and monographs was awarded with the medal named after A.Baitursunov., was nominated "The best scientist of KazGASA” by the Ministry of Education and Science of RK.

Azhgalieva B.A was awarded with the Certificate of honor MNiT RK.

Pyak O. Y was granted by MES RK awarded with the "Honorable Worker of Education of RK”.

By the results of her work in 2009–10 a. y., Dzhartaeva D.K. was awarded the 1^st Degree Diploma for taking the first place in the "The Best Teacher of KazGASA” competition.

Zhanseitov M.F. was awarded for taking the third place in the nomination "The Best Adviser of KazGASA”, according the results of his work in 2009–10 a.y. and in 2011 – "The best teacher”.

Burzev V.V. was awarded for taking the second place in the nomination "Luchshiy proforientator”.

Aliev B.Z. According to the results of the academic year 2010–11 the specialization RPZS was awarded the diploma "The best specialization”.

Homyakov V.A. was awarded the 3-d Degree Diploma "The best scientist”.

Besimbayev E.T. was awarded Diploma for the participation in the 10^th sports festival among teachers and employees of IEC dedicated to 20^th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan.

The department takes part in sport life of KazGASA. In 1970–71 a joint team of teachers with the captain of a team associate professor of the department Ospanov S.O. has twice won a rank of championship of KazSSR among high schools.. Traditionally, annual volleyball and chess tournaments are held among the veterans of Universities. Associated prof. Ospanov S.O organizesed and conducted (miss FGC-2010) and a competition with students on different sport games with the academy leader`s support and Sport club of KazGASA.
