KazGASA is the only institution of higher education of architectural and constructional profile in Kazakhstan, which prepares students according to the credit system of education on the basis of the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK №386 dated 07.06.03 “On scientific and pedagogic experiment”.

The purpose of credit system of education is to raise the level of professional training students, developing their individual creative abilities with possibility for students to transfer to the universities abroad.

To reach this purpose, the Academy has fully reformed the teaching process, providing it with new planning and regulating documentation. In particular, a system of core and elective subjects has been introduced in the experimental curriculums. Elective subjects make more than 40% of all the subjects in these plans.

One of the main advantages of the credit system of education is free choice: the students can choose both lecturers and their educating trajectory. Along with typical and working teaching plans individual teaching plans of students (ITPS – Curriculum) , that determine the content of education and the arrangement of teaching are being introduced.

In the framework of credit system of educating all the academic time of students is measured in credits.

The volume of studying work is measured in credits: 1 credit equals to 1 academic hour of class work a week, during 15 weeks of a semester, accompanies with 2 hours student’ independent work. Thus, credit means 45 academic hours of works (15 hours in auditorium, 30 hours of student’ independent works.

During one semester, a student must collect 12-18 credits, during one year – 24-36 credits.

During four years of learning a bachelor collects 128 credits, master – during six years of learning – 176 credits.

The studying process with credit system of educating is carried out in the forms of class work (lectures, practical studies), laboratory work, studio classes.

Independent work of a student under supervision of a lecturer and independent work of a master under the supervision of a lecturer is analogous to the term of Office Hours, generally accepted in the world. Its purpose is to enable the student to get individual qualitative consultation on the material of classroom studies, on the content of additional themes and to implement course works, accounting graphical and tests.
